Hello from the northwest coast- about as far as you can go without dropping off into the ocean- home of trees and wildlife and oceans and whales! Shopping at thrift stores for preloved clothing is one way that I can do my part to reduce and recycle textiles.
I consider store bought clothing to be well sewn canvases for my ecodyed, embroidered or felted fabric art. When you start with good basic clothing you know it will last and all I have to do is give it some colour and character and a story! The hard part- the sewing- is done, and I just get to play. I live in a remote area so tend to be highly influenced by nature, trees and the ocean. I love ecodying and experimenting with local plants and berries.
These clothes have all been washed after they were dyed and are from a smoke free home. If they are ecodyed, I suggest you use a very gentle soap to wash them in- no bleach- and you can put them in the dryer. As you wear the clothes and love them- they will fade somewhat- especially if they have been dyed with berries. But, the berry dyed ones will fade to silver which is lovely too. Most of the other dyes will hold their colour- especially the rust- for a long time.
If I can't find clothes that I want to upcycle I will make simple jackets and vests out of vintage tableclothes, old flannel sheets and pieces of vintage fabric. Almost everything I buy is white to start with so I can add my own ecodyes to it. I hope you like my clothes.
