A beautiful antique Victorian Period (c. 1880-1900) small cased satin glass vase in the desirable Mother-of-Pearl. The Webb style (made by Thomas Webb), hand blown vase is made of pearled (mother of pearl), light blue satin glass. The vase has an opaque white interior cased with a gorgeous aqua blue glass with satin finish on the exterior. Decorated with a diamond quilted design throughout the vase on the exterior. It’s 5” tall, 3” wide at the top and bottom and 4 1/2” wide in the middle.
It has a nice coloration with the darker blue around the top & a very pale blue, almost white color around the bottom. This would make an excellent addition to any art glass or satin glass collection! It’s in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Only few scratches at the very bottom of the vase in the interior. Some discolouration at the opening of the vase in the interior. All shown in the last picture.
This beauty of aqua blue satin glass, is one of my favorite glassware effects. Satin glass is in a category way above any paper satin or matte gloss finishes one might find. It has a silky smoth texture created by the acid bath it sits in prior to relase.
A little bit of a history on satin glass:
Satin glass found its popularity in the late 1800s as colored glass was becoming easier & less expensive to produce, bringing bright colored glassware to homes that previously could not afford it. A secod surge began around the late 1930s, championed primarily by Fenton Glass
