Crusades (1050-1250 A.D.) Cloverleaf cross found in gold on Sjaelland. The three-clover shaped at the end of the cross arms symbolize the trinity. The cross became a religious symbol in Denmark at the time Christianity became the state religion. In this period it was not uncommon that the Thorshammer and the cross were worn side by side on one chain for extra protection.
