Richilieu satin-lined jewelry case with stitched detailing and embossed leather cover. Mother of pearl like clasp. Case has some age to it giving it a real vintage feel.
This case came from my mother who passed away at 99 in 2020. I can therefore say with some degree of certainty that this case is at least 70 years old.
Richilieu jewelry was produced by Joseph H. Myer & Bros. in Brooklyn, New York, beginning in 1911. Richelieu, Inc. was formed through a merger with Heller-Deltah Company, the maker of Deltah Pearls, in 1933, according to an article in the New York Times. However, Joseph H. Meyer & Bros. was still mentioned in some advertising pieces as the maker of Richelieu jewelry in the 1940s.
As makers of imitation pearls go, the Richelieu brand was well-known in the 1940s and ‘50s in particular. Their necklaces were sold in satin-lined presentation cases marked with the name of the company.
