I scored this exquisite vintage handmade chemise in the late 90s but never actually wore it. Best guess is that it was lovingly hand-made sometime in the 60s, possibly earlier. It's definitely silk, and the print is a fabulous collection of engraved-style illustrations of Victorian toiletries.
It's constructed with a bias cut, so it drapes beautifully, and there's a grosgrain satin ribbon tie that can be adjusted for more or less gathering at the bustline.
It's long enough that it can be worn as a cute hi-lo mini-dress with tights or leggings, but you could just as easily wear it under a corset with a period costume, if you're into that...
Based on how it fit me at the time, I say this will work for a size L at most. The arms are cut fairly tight for the bigger-boned among us. Please check the measurements below to be sure.
There's a very small red mark, possibly from a ballpoint pen, on the collar (see pic), which I haven't tried to remove, but it's barely noticeable.
There are no labels whatsoever - it appears to have been homemade by someone with professional level couture skills.
