simply_chick @mysusieque @mysusieque So we have Ruby (big red hen) we rescued her from a tree! Then Emerald (greenish feathered one with missing tail feathers) was being picked on by her flock so we took her in. Crystal (white one) Opal (striped one) Ricky (deformed beak... she’s the sweetest out of them all!) Kimba (black/blonde fuzzy ears) Jimbo (blonde, fuzzy ears) were all rescued from a farm where they were suffering from malnutrition and would end at the slaughter house :(

simply_chick @mysusieque and yes loss is so hard! Not only on me but the flock too! We built them a beautiful chicken coop this summer and they love it! People think I’m crazy for rescuing animals😂 But my heart is so big I could never do it for meat. I wouldn’t want to either.

simply_chick @mysusieque and Helen really was such a beautiful bird. The last pic was actually the night before she passed so that’s why her comb is hung over :) She looks better in the other pics haha! But I love that photo because she looks peaceful. She was.

simply_chick @tanyanicole02 I think your referring to the third picture from the bottom? That is emerald! We rescued her from a flock that was picking on her. Her skin was very irritated from that but also she got sunburned 🙈 She’s doing great now, happy and healthy 🐔

simply_chick @tanyanicole02 well she was removed from her previous flock, but then we cleaned the spot 2-3 times a week and put some healing salve on the location. It’s been almost a year now, and her feathers are almost all back... it’s been a while!

simply_chick @tanyanicole02 hmm... sometimes they will start pecking at each-other out of boredom. I recommend getting seed blocks (they call them flock blocks or boredom busters) and that encourages pecking elsewhere. My girls love that thing and it lasts a couple months! You can get them from tractor supply or another farm store!

R.I.P. beautiful Helen 💖 I know this great nonfiction book about a blind kitty you should read lol, it's called Homer's Odyssey (with a long subtitle) but the *by Gwen Cooper* should direct you away from the epic poem 😹. special needs animals rule! 😻

We ride bikes and go past this home with a great chicken coop with different kinds of chickens, including silkies. We can tell that they are taken care of and love to go by to see them. I think of you and your rescued chickens. Deepest sympathy.
