Holt Renfrew and Company Limited is a Canadian luxury department store chain, founded in 1837, by William S Henderson, the original store was in Quebec city Lower Canada and operated as a fur shop.
Early in the post war period Holt Renfrew reestablished close working relationships with leading fashion houses of Europe and North America by 1947 an agreement with Christian Dior was made to sell its Paris hauteur in Canada. This arrangement soon evolved into an exclusive deal, explicitly selling only at Holt Renfrew in all of Canada.
Astrakhan or astracan is a fur that is obtained from the skins of the karakul, a sheep native to central Asia, the main characteristics of this sheep are its short, black very shiny hair. The hair is fine and soft, not curly but slightly wavy.
Features include if the coat include; fully lined in a beige silk fabric with a wavy wiggle pattern, previous owner’s name embroidered to the right mid side, one open slip interior pocket to the right mid side, to exterior of coat there is one open slip pocket to each side, concealed eye hook (5) closures to front & split collar.
