Flapjack succulents belong to the Kalanchoe family; also known as a Paddle Plant, they get their name from the shape of their leaves. When stressed this plant’s leaves will turn bright red; they grow best in full sun and well draining soil. There are several different ways you can grow this plant; they can be planted in the ground, used in a rock garden, potted in a pot by themselves, or included in a mixed container. Originally from South Africa, these plants are very drought tolerant. The white powder that covers it’s leaves is water resistant and helps protect against sunburn. Flapjacks will bloom in late winter to early spring; their bloom stalks can be anywhere from 3 to 6 feet tall while the plant itself only reaches 12 to 18 inches in height.

dzoobaby My daughter in law has a bunch of these and they are beautiful in Fall and Winter. She lives in El Paso. I live in Phoenix but I have had no luck with them here. She’s given me several and they end up dying. She started out with one and has propagated them and has several now. Don’t know what I do wrong. I bought 2 succulent bowls from Lowe’s and killed those too! I do ok with cactus-prickly pear, senita, barrel etc. I grow tons of aloe and agave no problem!
