Cotton was once the dominant material in textiles production, but now synthetics - particularly polyester - prevail. Today, cotton makes up around 27% of total fibre production. Cotton requires large amounts of water, which is problematic in water-scarce regions where it’s grown 🇮🇳🇨🇳🇹🇷.
